When I first came to London I passed by AllSaints, never really bothering to go in. It didn’t seem like anything special. The bare brick and wood décor with its signature front window stacked with vintage sewing machines didn’t impress me enough to go in. However one chilly London day I decided to go inside. Although my visit was initially to take a break from London’s unpredictable weather, once inside I didn’t come out for hours. I felt as if I had died and gone to fashion heaven. Don’t judge me, but I think I actually mumbled the words, “where have you been all my life?” to the clothing.

If you haven’t already guessed it, I loved, loved, loved what I saw when I went inside.  I wanted absolutely all of it! Never had I felt like that about a label nor brand before. Once I finally gained some composure, I shuffled through the clothing to find a price tag. Although a refreshing take compared to everything else on the market, it’s definitely not cheap!  Leather jackets were over £300, graphic tees starting at £80 and dresses averaging more then £150.

Apparently many feel the same way that I do about this label because even in a time of recession, this chain only seems to grow and gain more success.  It’s recent low-key opening in New York has already beat out Topshop in sales, whose shop is almost twice the size and located a few yards away. Rather then advertise, AllSaints prefers to get sales from free press and customer referrals. It’s obviously working!

The successful chain’s style is edgy with a gothic twist.  Colours are mostly black, beige and grey.  It specializes in the distressed, worn out look and is reminiscent of Vivienne Westwood’s work.

As I walk the streets of London I am noticing more and more people are wearing Doc Martens. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Doc Martens refers to a footwear, clothing and accessories brand called Dr. Martens, which is best known for its air-cushioned foot wear. They were a major craze for most of the 1990s when grunge had taken over the music industry. However when the new millennium hit, they were nowhere to be seen.

Celebrities such as Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe, who have been seen all over town wearing them, have been named responsible for the comeback. Also this season’s as well as next season’s continual emphasis on the “military-chic” look has contributed to the renewed popularity of Doc Martens. With military-chic’s emphasis on the combat boot, why wouldn’t we go for the icon combat boot – the Doc Marten? Makes me wish I had kept my old pair. Not only would I have had the combat boot of all combat boots, but my pair of “docs” (as we used to call them) would have already been worn out and distressed, which is another trend we will continue to see this fall. Alas I will have to buy shiny, new ones like everyone else

The limited edition shoes will use Sanrio’s iconic characters, such as Hello Kitty®, as inspirations for the collection – with 3D bows, in a white with blue outsole or black with pink outsole.
